The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 is set to take place in Allahabad (Prayagraj), one of the holiest cities in India, and it’s an experience you won’t want to miss.

So, Let’s know when will the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 start and where the Maha Kumbh Mela is to be organized. Also, I will be sharing with you some important dates and information on how to travel and experience this amazing Maha Kumbh Mela.

Kumbh Mela is a religious festival that celebrates a mythological event of Hindu mythology. This event was the Samudra Manthan, and as a result, the gods snatched the pitcher of nectar (Amrit Kumbh) and divided it among themselves.

However, some drops of this nectar spilled out of the pitcher and fell on the earth at four places: Ujjain, Nashik, Prayagraj, and Haridwar. Maha Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years at these places to celebrate this event.

The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 is scheduled to start on January 13, 2025, and will continue till February 26, 2025. This religious festival will continue for 45 days. January is the month that corresponds to the Pausha month of the Hindu calendar. Generally, the dates of Maha Kumbh Mela are calculated according to the Hindu calendar and Hindu astrology. The positions of planets also play an important role in Maha Kumbh Mela.

This year Mahakumbh will be held in Prayagraj after a gap of 12 years in 2025. Millions of devotees will gather to take a dip in the holy rivers at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj. It is the confluence of three holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati.

Maha Kumbh is a festival that is celebrated every 12 years. This festival has become even more important because the influence of the planets is very auspicious and powerful on these days. During the Kumbh Mela, people celebrate Hindu festivals like Makar Sankranti, Maha Shivratri, and Basant Panchami.

More importantly, the dates for the Purnima (full moon) and Amavasya (new moon) also fall during the same period. The Maha Kumbh begins with the holy Paush Purnima. Other dates like Mauni Amavasya and Maghi Purnima are also considered very auspicious. These are the days when people bathe in the holy rivers like the Ganga and Yamuna and get purified.

Kumbh, Ardh Kumbh, Purna Kumbh and Maha Kumbh. Each is celebrated based on astrological calculations. Astrologers look at the transit of planets and then decide the date and year of Kumbh Mela. People even today do not understand the difference between them and consider them the same. Therefore, we have explained the importance of each type in detail.

Kumbh Mela

As you might know, Kumbh Mela is celebrated at an interval of 12 years. Four places in India – Ujjain, Nashik, Prayagraj and Haridwar are selected in turn for this event. During this event, people take a dip in the holy rivers flowing through these cities. These rivers are Ganga (Haridwar), Kshipra (Ujjain), Godavari (Nashik), and Sangam of three rivers (Prayagraj).

Ardh Kumbh Mela

When Kumbh Mela is celebrated every 6 years it is called Ardh Kumbh. This holy event takes place only in two places – Haridwar and Prayagraj. Ardha means half, and thus, it is celebrated every 6 years. While Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years, Ardh Kumbh is held every 6 years.

Purna Kumbh Mela

The Kumbh Mela celebrated every 12 years is called Purna Kumbh Mela. It takes place only in Prayagraj. Purna Kumbh is also called Maha Kumbh. The Kumbh Mela scheduled to take place in Prayagraj in 2025 is a Purna Kumbh Mela. The last time Prayagraj hosted the Kumbh Mela was in 2013. This type of Kumbh Mela is considered very auspicious and of immense religious significance.

Maha Kumbh Mela

When Kumbh Mela is held after every 144 years it is called Maha Kumbh. It takes place only in Prayagraj. This type of Kumbh Mela is extremely rare and hence even more special. Maha Kumbh takes place after 12 Purna Kumbhs. Millions of people celebrate this important event.

This is a very interesting fact based on Hindu astrology and religion. Astrologers and spiritual heads of religious organizations calculate the dates and place for Maha Kumbh solely based on the solar planets and their alignment.

Here is how a place is chosen for the Maha Kumbh Mela

Haridwar

When Jupiter is in Aquarius and Sun is in Aries, Maha Kumbh is held in Haridwar.

Ujjain

When Jupiter is in Leo and the Sun is exalted in Pisces, Maha Kumbh is held in Ujjain. The holy city of Ujjain is one of the oldest Indian cities. Lord Shiva is very fond of Ujjaini and it is said that he resides in the heart of the Ujjaini people.

Nashik

Mahakumbh is held in Nashik when Jupiter and Sun are in Leo. This means that when you visit Nashik during Maha Kumbh, you will receive the divine blessings of both these planets.

Prayagraj

When the planet Jupiter is in a high position in Taurus, and the Sun is also in a high position in Capricorn, then the Maha Kumbh is celebrated in Prayagraj.
